Early Years Writing

FS1 and FS2:

Our pupils’ writing journey begins with making marks.  Every opportunity is provided for the pupils to develop a love for mark-making.  Our pupils’ physical development is crucial when developing young writers.  We believe that developing gross and fine motor skills in enjoyable and relevant ways, help not only with handwriting, but also language development.  ‘Talk’ is key!

Children are immersed in the language of Phonics from the earliest opportunity.  The formation of the letters that the pupils learn during phonics are practised in a variety ways to suit the needs of our pupils.

Write Dance is used to develop fine motor skills and stamina for writing. Continuous Provision activities mean the children receive direct teaching and modelling of writing, as well as developing independence.  This independence is developed in inside and outdoor areas where opportunities for reading, writing and role play are explicit.  A variety of texts drive a lot of the learning, which are highly tailored to pupil interest.
